Player nominations are open for the upcoming Diamond League - Thorobred (Under 24s) Competition being held in May & June 2022.
Scorpions (League Age 17 to 23) from the following clubs are encouraged to participate: Swan Districts, Gosnells, Kalamunda, Kelmscott, Roleystone, and Victoria Park Belmont. Please register HERE and read our latest Diamond League update HERE. The new Diamond League took centre stage in the meetings across the New Year period, with the new General Managers starting to form plans for the inaugural season in 2022.
General Managers will be meeting regularly and rolling out their plans for their zone teams. Initial plans see three age groups being offered with seasons and pathways as follows: Open Age Teams will play from 25 June through to 28 August with the Grand Final series taking place on the weekend of 3 & 4 September. The winning team will represent WA at the National Super League Championship in Adelaide from 2 to 8 October. The Under 24 Teams (League Age 17 to 23 this season) will play from 7 May through to 12 June with the Grand Final taking place on the weekend of 18 & 19 June. Travel restrictions permitting, the winning team will travel to Texas to play in the Thorobred World Series from July 29 to August 2 plus an additional tournament in the week following. The Under 19 Teams (League Age 17 & 18 this season) will play on the same dates as the Under 24 teams. The winning team will travel to the Asia Pacific region to play in the Palomino Asia Pacific tournament (dates TBA) – the winner of that tournament travelling to Texas on the same dates as the Under 24 team. All travelling is self-funded and subject to travel restrictions. It’s important to note that playing in the weekly competition does not compel players to travelling. The competition squad and travelling squad can contain different players. At this stage, we are still seeking an additional two General Managers to ensure that all players from all zones are able to participate. Zones without a General Manager will not be participating. General Managers are receiving a small honorarium payment so they are paid positions. For further information and to nominate to be a General Manager please visit the webpage HERE. Interested players can also obtain more information from their Zone General Manager (contact details on the webpage). For zones without a GM, please contact your club president for details. Baseball WA is pleased to receive a $5,000 grant from the Road Safety Commission for the 2022 Senior Baseball Club Championship.
The tournament, slated for 2 April to 12 April 2022 at Empire Ballpark, will be supported by the Road Safety Event Grant, with a focus on fatigue and raising awareness of safe diving, especially for those covering long distances from regional to metropolitan WA and vice versa. “We are looking forward to the upcoming Senior Baseball Club Championship, which will bring winning teams across regional WA, State League, and Provincial League together for an open-age, end-of-season championship,“ BWA Participation Manager David Hayes said. “We want to raise awareness of the warning signs of fatigue amongst our player base, which is typically young males aged up to 35 years plus regional members who travel long distances. Thank you to the Road Safety Commission for the support which will help us spread this valuable message and ensure our baseballers stay safe on and off the field.” The alcohol-free event will include Road Safety Commission signage, a player pledge, special umpire shirts, and a livestream of the grand final. Road Safety Event Grants aim to engage the community and promote important road safety messages.
