Kalamunda Rangers 12 v Wanneroo Giants 13 Wanneroo Giants defeated Kalamunda Rangers 13-12 on Saturday thanks to a walk-off single. The game was tied at 12 with Wanneroo batting in the bottom of the eighth when Andrew Walsh singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run. Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. Wanneroo collected 17 hits and Kalamunda had 15. The Giants captured the lead in the first inning as Brayden Luksa drew a walk to start the scoring. Wanneroo also put up four runs in the fifth inning with RBIs from Walsh and Mark Argiropoulos. Kalamunda scored four runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower was led by Dave RYAN, Liam CUBBAGE, and Jared CHAMP, all knocking in runs in the inning. Simon Eissens earned the win for Wanneroo. The righthander lasted three innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out six and walking zero. Greg Elliott threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Travis Wright took the loss for Kalamunda Rangers. He allowed 16 hits and nine runs over four and a third innings, striking out one. Matt Coleman started the game for Wanneroo. The pitcher surrendered eight runs on nine hits over four innings, striking out two and walking one. Chris Bishop started the game for Kalamunda. The hurler went three innings, allowing four runs on one hit and striking out two. Kalamunda hit two home runs on the day. Kyle Cornfield went yard in the first and Cubbage had a dinger in the eighth. Wanneroo totaled 17 hits in the game with three hits apiece from Luksa and Travis Erdmann. Eissens, Mitchell Belton, Elliott, Brett Mola, and Walsh all managed multiple hits too. Kalamunda collected 15 hits on the day. Ryan went 3-for-5 at the plate while Brandon Naughton, Wright, Cornfield, and Brendan Morris each collected multiple hits for Kalamunda Rangers. Kalamunda plays the Braves on Sunday and Wanneroo plays Rockingham on Monday. Port Hedland Reds 5 v Braves 9 Port Hedland fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 9-5 loss to Braves Baseball Club on Saturday. The Braves scored in the first on a groundout by Steve McLaughlin and a single from Matthew Froude. Donald Ismail had an RBI single in the second inning, and another run scored on a wild pitch during Matthew Van Der Graaf's at-bat. The Braves scored four runs in the fourth with RBIs from Joshua Morris, Van Der Graaf, and McLaughlin. Froude was the winning pitcher for the Braves. The ace surrendered five runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out four. Mick Coffin took the loss for Port Hedland, lasting seven innings, allowing 13 hits and nine runs while striking out three. Port Hedland collected eight hits on the day as Eugene Cheong went 3-for-3 and Corey Bowins had two hits. The Braves racked up 13 hits with multi-hit games for Froude, Darrell Green, Ismail, and Morris. The Braves were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error as McLaughlin made the most plays with 11. Both Port Hedland and the Braves play Rockingham on Sunday. Wanneroo took an early lead in the second inning when Byron Armstrong doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring three runs. Daniel Bourke had an RBI too. The Eagles got ahead with four runs in the third inning as Matt Dixon drew a walk, scoring one run and Adrian Blount doubled on a 1-1 count to score another two. Aaron Bonomi singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one more. Brendan Sing got the win for Morley, allowing 11 hits and six runs over nine innings, striking out 11. Tom Bailey took the loss for Wanneroo, allowing four hits and six runs over three innings, striking out four. Armstrong went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Wanneroo while Dawson Summers had two hits. Bonomi, Jesse Williams, Blount, and Ulrich Bojarski all collected multiple hits for Morley. Morley Eagles 5 v Wanneroo Giants 1 - Game 2 Morley brought home the flag with a 5-1 victory over Wanneroo on Friday night. Morley tallied three runs in the eighth inning on singles by Alex Hall and Travis Murphy. Lachy Southee was the winning pitcher for Morley, surrendering just one run on four hits over nine innings, striking out nine. Jay Bullingham took the loss for Wanneroo. The righty surrendered two runs on three hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. Morley tallied one home run on the day. Hall had a long ball in the sixth inning. Hall went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Morley in hits. The Eagles didn't commit a single error in the field as Hall had the most chances with 10. Rockingham Rams 4 v Kalamunda Rangers 3 Rockingham scored more runs than Kalamunda, taking the victory on Thursday to the tune of 4-3. The Rams opened up scoring in the first inning, when Michael Thompson drew a walk, scoring one run. Thompson pitched the team to victory, giving up three runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking one. Kyle Cornfield took the loss for Kalamunda after giving up four runs on five hits over four innings, striking out four. Rockingham tallied six hits on the day, including two from Kyle Auhl and Hayden Brown. Kalamunda totaled seven hits with multiple from Cornfield and Luke Williamson. Kalamunda plays Wanneroo on Saturday and Rockingham plays the Braves on Sunday. Braves 1 v Wanneroo 15 Mark Argiropoulos did the opposing team no favors on Thursday, picking up four hits over five at bats and leading Wanneroo Giants to a 15-1 win over Braves Baseball Club. He had singles in the first, second, fifth, and sixth. Wanneroo fired up the offense in the first, when Aaron Home tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Wanneroo tallied five runs in the fifth inning thanks to singles from Home, Argiropoulos, Brett Mola, and Brendan Lee. Simon Eissens was credited with the victory for Wanneroo. All rights reserved. Three WA players have been named on the rosters for next weekend’s Australian Women’s Baseball Showcase presented by VALO in Adelaide.
Adelaide and Brisbane will be represented by 32 of the top female players from around the country in the historic doubleheader on April 3 at West Beach’s Bennett Field. Thirteen members of the 2018 Boral Australian Women’s World Cup roster have been named. Seven players have been added from rosters announced for the Melbourne games last month, which were called off following Victoria heading into a COVID-enforced lockdown. Western Australian trio Kaila Borgomastro, Caitlin Eynon and Aislinn Morris have been named after players from the state were not available for games in Melbourne due to border restrictions. Amy Collins, Maddison Erwin, Maddison Heath and Carly Moore have also been added to the rosters. Game one will get underway from 5pm local time with the second game to follow from 7.30pm on April 3. Broadcast details and the format for the games will be revealed early next week. Adelaide’s Australian Women’s Baseball Showcase is presented by VALO and proudly supported by the South Australian Government. Tickets will only be available at the door via card purchases. Adult tickets are $10 and children under 16 are free.
