 West Coast Rays is Baseball WA's franchise in the Down Under Winter Classic (DUWC).

The 2022 event will take place from 3-9 July 2022 on the Gold Coast QLD.

There will be four teams selected, one in each tournament division, being Little League-Major, Intermediate League, Junior League and Senior League, with players from 2022 State Championship teams that do not qualify for the nationals eligible for selection.

Once players are selected in their charter team for the 2022 tournaments (on or after Feb 1), all details about the West Coast Rays will be provided to them.

Specifically, teams will be chosen as follows (DOB range) - (updated 4/3/22):
17U - 1 May 04 - 30 April 06
15U - 1 May 06 - 30 April 08
13U- 1 May 08 - 30 April 09
Ripken (12U) - 1 May 09 - 30 April 11


Players will pay a tournament levy (see below) which will include the following:
​Game Operations
  • 15 Players Per Team
  • 1 x Head Coach, 1 x Assistant Coach, 1 x Pitching Coach
  • 1 x EO, 1 x Scorer (must know GameChanger), 1 x Umpire
  • 6 Inning Games for LL & IL
  • 7 Inning Games for JL & SL
  • Mandatory Play 1 AB and 50% Tournament Play
  • Minimum 6 Pool Games and 1 Playoff game (weather permitting)
  • Lunch on Game day Daily
Field Gear Players (Will be supplied)
  • 1 x Playing Jersey, 1 x Playing Pants, 1 x 3D Richardson Cap, 1 x Hoodie, 1 x Training Top, 1 x Training Shorts, 1 x Arm Sleeve
Field Gear Coaches (Will be supplied)
  • 1 x Playing Jersey, 1 x Playing Pants, 1 x 3D Richardson Cap, 1 x Coaches Jacket, 1 x Training Top, 1 x Training Shorts
Field Gear Scorer’s & EO’s (Will be supplied)
  • 1 x Team Polo, 1 x 3D Richardson Cap, 1 x Hoodie
Field Umpires (Will be supplied)
  • 1 x DUWC Umpires Shirt, 1 x 3D Richardson Cap
Off-field
  • All players will receive a Theme Park pass to use anytime whilst the Tournament runs. Each team will play at least 2 early games therefore can visit the Park afterwards.
  • Each Player receives a DUWC Id lanyard which gives the player access to the DUWC Hotel Dugout plus Nightly Information Seminars from Big League Experience, College Pathways, Discussion topics and interviews.
  • Included is the Presentation Dinner at a currently “Secret” location which will NOT be disclosed until 1 month from the event, the finale presentation will be the perfect end to a fantastic week of baseball.
  • Each Team receives a playing pack which consists of Hubba Bubba Bucket, Eye Blacks, Scorebook, Line Up book.
  • Opening Night Walk Out Event Venue at one of the Warner Village Theme Parks
    Player and Team Staff Multi Park Passes 
    Closing Ceremony Event held at one of the Warner Village Theme Parks (Exclusive use for DUWC)

Costs:
Players will pay two levies
- one to DUWC for the tournament expenses which includes the items covered above - this will be paid in two installments of $500 by the end of April and $500 prior to the commencement of the tournament. These payment are made directly to DUWC through their website.
- one to BWA to cover flights, accommodation, ground transport, food allowance and sundries for all players and team personnel - this will be $100 on selection and the remaining $3,080 prior to the tournament (BWA will provide an invoice).

Pathway:
After the tournament, DUWC will be sending a team from each age division to the Babe Ruth World Series tournaments in the USA.

For the 12U Bracket what this means is that the tournament champion from the DUWC gains automatic entry to the Cal Ripken World Series every year in Branson, Missouri. 

At the other age groups, current plan is to select a "Tournament" All Star team from each age group at the DUWC to participate, made up of players from across the country.
