Led by a gem from starting pitcher Dillon Clarkson, the Swans took game one by a narrow 4-3 score line before the Rams hit back to take game two in commanding fashion. Rockingham’s offence piled on an impressive 21 team hits as they downed Swans 16-4 behind Thomas DeBonville’s big day at the plate. W: Peter Reyes (3-4), L: James Watson (0-1) In a game full of emotion, the Carine Cats and South Perth Cubs battled it out for the Greg Jelks Memorial Shield – a game in memory of the late, great baseball icon. On the field, it was joy for the Cats, who recorded a 5-2 win in a fantastic celebration of life on Sunday. Carine left it late – scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure the win. Leadoff man Riley Conlan did the damage for the Cats – homering and driving in a pair, while Devon Ramirez also collected two RBIs. On the mound, Ramirez and Peter Reyes combined to toss five shutout innings in relief of starter Cody Holt. James Watson was tagged with the loss after surrendering the late flurry of runs. Game 1: Wembley Magpies 11-7 Victoria Park/Belmont Reds W: Curtis Bacon (1-0), L: Chris Dawson (0-2) Game 2: Wembley Magpies 2-18 Victoria Park/Belmont Reds W: Matthew Martin (1-4), L: Kai Karasho (0-2) In a game of two contrasts, the Wembley Magpies and Victoria Parl/Belmont Reds were forced to settle for a split of their double header on Sunday. After claiming a hard-fought 11-7 win in game one, Wembley were brought back down to earth in game two as Victoria Park flexed their offensive muscles to record a resounding 18-2 win. In a pair of games dominated by the bats, Reds sluggers Jack Smalpage, Mitchell Waterhouse (2) and Matthew DeKundy all homered, while Magpies catcher Michael Varga also cleared the fence twice. In all, the teams combined for 28 team hits and scored 38 runs across the afternoon. Wanneroo Giants 12-6 Gosnells Hawks W: Jason Ryan (3-0), Adam Millson (2-4) The Wanneroo Giants carried over their strong form from 2019, taking care of the Gosnells Hawks 12-6 in their first game of the new year. Nick Irwin homered, while Jason Ryan worked 3.1 shutout frames out of the bullpen as the Giants fought back from an early 3-0 deficit to claim victory. Adam Millson took the loss for the Hawks after giving up seven earned runs through 5.2 innings as Madison Beaird collected four base hits for Wanneroo.
