2020/21 State League 1: Week 19 Wrap

It's finals time for State League 1 as Wanneroo, Braves, Gosnells, and Morley advanced to the semis. Read recaps from recent games and view fixtures, results and standings HERE.​

Rockingham Rams 4 v Wembley Magpies 1
Rockingham snagged a late lead and defeated Wembley 4-1 on Tuesday. The game was tied at one with the Rams batting in the bottom of the fifth when Joshua Diggins singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

Diggins was the winning pitcher for Rockingham. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out two and walking one. Brock Molloy threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Zachary Gomersall started the game, throwing three innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out three.

Chris Crawford took the loss for Wembley, giving up surrendered four runs on four hits over six innings, striking out two.

Diggins led Rockingham with two hits in four at bats. Wembley didn't commit a single error in the field. Riley Spring had six chances in the field, the most on the team.

Wembley finished 8-20 and Rockingham finished 12-16.

South Perth Cubs 1 v Gosnells Hawks 3 - Elimination Final
Both teams were strong on the mound but Gosnells prevailed at the plate in a victory over South Perth on Friday night. James Watson started the game the Cubs and recorded 17 outs.

The Cubs lost despite out-hitting the Hawks nine to five. Adam Millson was credited with the victory for Gosnells. The righthander went nine innings, allowing one run on nine hits and striking out five.

Watson took the loss for the Cubs, throwing five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out three.

South Perth tallied nine hits in the game. Kent Fitzgibbons and Tanner McCarn had two hits each.

Robin Adamson went 2-for-5 at the plate to lead the Hawks in hits.

South Perth finished with a 15-14 record while Gosnells plays Wanneroo in the semi-finals.


Wanneroo Giants 15 v Gosnells Hawks 3 - Semi Final
Wanneroo got things moving right away in a 15-3 win over Gosnells on Monday.

Madison Beaird singled on a 0-1 count, scoring the first run of the game. 

Chris King earned the victory on the hill. The righty surrendered one run on one hit over one inning, walking one. Ethan Cooper threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Tom Bailey started the game, surrendering zero runs on three hits over four innings, striking out five

Joshua Silvi took the loss for Gosnells. Silvi allowed six hits and nine runs over two innings, striking out one.

Nicholas Riley led Wanneroo with two hits in three at bats. Michael Robideau went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Gosnells in hits.

Game 2 is on Wednesday night at Empire Ballpark at 7:30 PM and the third game will be Friday if required.

Braves Baseball Club 12 v Morley Eagles 7 - Semi Final

Jack Rigden was dialed in at the plate on Tuesday, tallying four hits and leading Braves to a 12-7 win over Morley. Rigden doubled in the first and  singled in the first, third, and eighth.

Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base as the Braves collected 12 hits and Morley had ten. Sean Garratt drew a walk, scoring the first runs for the Braves.

Morley scored three runs in the ninth inning. Alex Hall, Ulrich Bojarski, and Zac McMillin all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Daniel Schmidt was the winning pitcher for the Braves. Schmidt went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out three and walking zero. Alex Oehme, Cameron Lamb, and Sam Kennelly all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.

Lachy Southee took the loss for Morley. Southee allowed one hit and five runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one.

The Braves racked up 12 hits in the game. Rigden, Kennelly, and Daniel Choi all managed multiple as Rigden led with four hits in five at bats.

Morley had ten hits in the game. Aaron Bonomi went 3-for-5 as McMillin and Hall had multiple hits too.

The next game is at Empire Ballpark on Thursday at 7:30 PM, followed by a third game if required on Saturday.
