The 2021 Think Again Senior & Intermediate League State Championships featured plenty of exciting action at Rockingham Baseball Club today. Senior League Wanneroo Giants 7 - Coastal Bay Sharks 5 SL - Wanneroo Giants got out to a six-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 7-5 victory over SL - Coastal Bay Sharks on Friday. SL - Coastal Bay Sharks scored four runs in the failed comeback on a walk by Cruze Brendon, a groundout by Jaygee Griggs, and a single by Kayne Williamson. SL - Wanneroo Giants earned the victory despite allowing SL - Coastal Bay Sharks to score four runs in the fifth inning. Brendon, Griggs, and Williamson powered the big inning with RBIs. In the second inning, SL - Wanneroo Giants got their offense started when Dawson George singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. SL - Wanneroo Giants notched three runs in the third inning. SL - Wanneroo Giants's big bats in the inning were led by singles by Jacob Santich and Ryan Gough and a double by Jack Angell. Santich was on the hill for SL - Wanneroo Giants. The righthander allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking zero. Samuel Sheppard toed the rubber for SL - Coastal Bay Sharks. The pitcher allowed zero hits and two runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Sean Flynn and Brendon entered the game from the bullpen, throwing four innings and one-third of an inning respectively. Angell led SL - Wanneroo Giants with two hits in three at bats. Williamson went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead SL - Coastal Bay Sharks in hits. Carine Cats 9 - Southern Titans 8 Friday's game against SL - Carine Cats was a heartbreaker for SL - Southern Titans, as they lost the lead late in a 9-8 defeat. The game was tied at eight with SL - Carine Cats batting in the top of the sixth when Thomas Summers singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. SL - Southern Titans collected nine hits and SL - Carine Cats had nine in the high-scoring affair. SL - Carine Cats took an early lead in the second inning. SL - Carine Cats scored one run when Cooper Granland singled. SL - Southern Titans notched six runs in the fifth inning. The rally was led by singles by Adrian Menner and Samuel Forrest, a walk by Nicholas Davis, and a triple by Geoffrey Kerr. Carlos Salas toed the rubber for SL - Carine Cats. Salas lasted four and a third innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out seven. Aiden Branch started the game for SL - Southern Titans. The righthander went one and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out two. Luke Taylor and Davis entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three and a third innings and two innings respectively. SL - Southern Titans saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Campbell Froude, Forrest, and Kerr each managed multiple hits for SL - Southern Titans. Kerr, Forrest, and Froude each collected two hits to lead SL - Southern Titans. SL - Carine Cats totaled nine hits. Cooper McDonnell and Braydin Horsley all collected multiple hits for SL - Carine Cats. McDonnell led SL - Carine Cats with three hits in three at bats. Carine Cats 15 - Swan Hills Aces 4 SL - Swan Hills Aces watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 15-4 loss to SL - Carine Cats on Friday. SL - Carine Cats scored on a walk by Cooper Granland in the first inning, a single by Brendan Heath in the first inning, a error in the first inning, a single by Thomas Summers in the first inning, a fielder's choice by Josh Molen in the second inning, a groundout by Carlos Salas in the second inning, and a wild pitch during Summers's at bat in the second inning. The SL - Swan Hills Aces struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing SL - Carine Cats, giving up 15 runs. SL - Carine Cats opened up scoring in the first inning. Granland drew a walk, scoring one run. SL - Carine Cats scored four runs in the seventh inning. SL - Carine Cats offense in the inning was led by Sean Escott, Jordan Strohfeld, Lachlan Cooper, and Matthew Stanton, who all drove in runs. Stanton got the start for SL - Carine Cats. The righty allowed zero hits and zero runs over one and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one. Riley Ozanne led things off on the mound for SL - Swan Hills Aces. The righty allowed four runs on zero hits. Callum Tomkinson, Taj Egan, and Michael De Gasperis each contributed in relief for SL - Swan Hills Aces. SL - Swan Hills Aces tallied eight hits. Coastal Bay Sharks 10 - Southern Titans 6 Even though SL - Southern Titans collected 12 hits to SL - Coastal Bay Sharks's seven, they still fell 10-6 on Friday. Despite the loss, SL - Southern Titans did collect 12 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, SL - Coastal Bay Sharks had seven hits on the way to victory. SL - Coastal Bay Sharks fired up the offense in the first inning. Jesse Neretlis drew a walk, scoring one run. In the bottom of the second inning, SL - Southern Titans tied things up at three when Cody Van Der Graaf tripled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs. SL - Coastal Bay Sharks pulled away for good with one run in the third inning. In the third Neretlis grounded out, scoring one run. SL - Coastal Bay Sharks scored four runs in the fifth inning. The big inning for SL - Coastal Bay Sharks came thanks to singles by Taj Gosling and Jaygee Griggs and a double by Lochlan Cahill. Griggs was on the hill for SL - Coastal Bay Sharks. Griggs went six and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on 12 hits and striking out three. Van Der Graaf was on the pitcher's mound for SL - Southern Titans. Van Der Graaf surrendered three runs on one hit over two innings, striking out one. Samuel Forrest, Reece Coles, and Ebony Hinchliffe each contributed in relief for SL - Southern Titans. Intermediate League Eastern Phantoms 21 - Western Tigers 0 Dylan Palethorpe threw a shutout to lead IL - Eastern Phantoms past IL - Western Tigers 21-0 on Friday. IL - Eastern Phantoms secured the victory thanks to 12 runs in the first inning. IL - Eastern Phantoms batters contributing to the big inning included George Calverley, Ryan Warner, Brady Manning, Cooper Murphy, Aaron Hugo, and Toby Franklin, who all drove in runs. In the first inning, IL - Eastern Phantoms got their offense started. Calverley singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. A single by Oliver Mortensen in the third inning was a positive for IL - Western Tigers. Palethorpe got the start for IL - Eastern Phantoms. The righthander allowed two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one. Bodhi Gray was on the mound for IL - Western Tigers. The righty went two-thirds of an inning, allowing 12 runs on seven hits and striking out one. Clayton Nurse threw two and a third innings out of the bullpen. IL - Eastern Phantoms collected 13 hits. Calverley, Manning, and Benjamin Nesbit each managed multiple hits for IL - Eastern Phantoms. Nesbit, Manning, and Calverley each collected two hits to lead IL - Eastern Phantoms. IL - Eastern Phantoms was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Murphy had the most chances in the field with six. Hugo led IL - Eastern Phantoms with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 13 stolen bases. Western Tigers 21 - Western Comets 19 IL - Western Tigers took the lead late in the game in a 21-19 victory over IL - Western Comets on Friday. With zero outs in the bottom of the sixth Junseok (Daniel) Kim grounded out, scoring one run. IL - Western Tigers built a five-run lead in the second inning and then held off IL - Western Comets's charge. IL - Western Comets tallied 13 runs in the failed comeback. Korbyn Wilson, Joshua Lockwood-Reader, Emilee Hone, Justin Plozza, Dylan Chapman, and Deakon Pribicevich powered the rally with RBIs. IL - Western Tigers captured the lead in the first inning. James Welch was hit by a pitch, driving in a run. IL - Western Comets evened things up at eight in the top of the third inning. IL - Western Comets scored two runs when Hone singled. Welch was on the pitcher's mound for IL - Western Tigers. The righty surrendered 14 runs on 11 hits over two and a third innings. Pribicevich led things off on the hill for IL - Western Comets. Pribicevich surrendered two runs on zero hits, walking one. Taj Austin, Deakon Thomas, and Hone each contributed in relief for IL - Western Comets. IL - Western Comets mashed two home runs on the day. Chapman put one out in the sixth inning. Wilson had a long ball in the first inning. Wanneroo Giants 6 - Carine Cats 3 IL - Wanneroo Giants nabbed the lead late in the game in a 6-3 victory over IL - Carine Cats on Friday. The game was tied at two with IL - Wanneroo Giants batting in the bottom of the sixth when Judd MacNeil singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Cameron Bahr got the start for IL - Wanneroo Giants. Bahr lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero. Isaac Coorey was on the pitcher's mound for IL - Carine Cats. The southpaw went five innings, allowing one run on five hits, striking out three and walking one. Oliver Wilkinson threw one inning out of the bullpen. IL - Wanneroo Giants totaled ten hits in the game. Quinn Fatai and Chase Shortland each had multiple hits for IL - Wanneroo Giants.
