Day 4 of the 2021 Think Again Senior & Intermediate League State Championships was a big one as teams looked to secure their spots in the grand final. Senior League Wanneroo Giants 17 - Coastal Bay Sharks 5 Coastal Bay Sharks watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 17-5 loss to Wanneroo Giants on Saturday. Wanneroo Giants scored on a groundout by Ryan Gough and an error in the first inning. Coastal Bay Sharks struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Wanneroo Giants, giving up 17 runs. The Giants got things moving in the first inning, when Jacob Santich doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. They also scored six runs in the second inning with RBIs from Sam Gooch, Santich, Gough, and Quinlin Jones. Santich led things off on the hill for Wanneroo Giants. The righty surrendered one run on zero hits over one inning, striking out two. Cruze Brendon started the game for Coastal Bay Sharks. The pitcher lasted one inning, allowing six hits and nine runs while striking out one and walking one. Samuel Sheppard and Jesse Neretlis entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three and two-thirds innings and one-third of an inning respectively. Jaygee Griggs, Sean Flynn, Jayden Lee, Niyaz Abdul, Neretlis, and Blake Foster each managed one hit to lead Coastal Bay Sharks. Wanneroo Giants tallied 12 hits in the game. Santich, Kaine Newham, and Jack Angell each racked up multiple hits for Wanneroo Giants. Wanneroo Giants was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Xavier Fatai had the most chances in the field with four. Swan Hills Aces 8 - Carine Cats 1 Swan Hills Aces defeated Carine Cats 8-1 on Saturday thanks to a timely five runs in a big fourth inning. The offensive onslaught by Swan Hills Aces was led by Riley Ozanne, Lewdon Te Mara, Ben Ferencakovic, and Tyler Houston, all driving in runs in the frame. Swan Hills Aces put up five runs in the fourth inning. SL - Swan Hills Aces's offense in the inning came from singles by Te Mara, Ferencakovic, and Houston and an error on a ball put in play by Ozanne. Kai Cahill got the start for Swan Hills Aces. The righthander surrendered one run on five hits over six and a third innings, striking out four. Matthew Stanton was on the mound for Carine Cats. The righthander allowed three hits and three runs over three innings. Sean Escott and Braydin Horsley entered the game as relief, throwing two and a third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively. Te Mara went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Swan Hills Aces in hits. Intermediate League Western Tigers 21 - Southern Hills Warriors 6 The base paths were crowded today for both offenses in a high-scoring game where IL - Western Tigers came out on top against IL - Southern Hills Warriors, 21-6. IL - Western Tigers secured the victory thanks to 11 runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to walks by Jay Nurse, Junseok (Daniel) Kim, and Clayton Nurse, singles by Brendan Sparkes and Lachlan Firth, and an error on a ball put in play by Joshua Coyne. IL - Southern Hills Warriors got things started in the first inning. Oliver Afanasiew singled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs. IL - Western Tigers pulled away for good with 11 runs in the second inning. In the second Nurse drew a walk, scoring one run, Sparkes singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs, an error scored two runs for IL - Western Tigers, Kim drew a walk, scoring one run, Nurse drew a walk, scoring one run, and Firth singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs. Coyne got the start for IL - Western Tigers. The righthander went three innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out six. William Baker started the game for IL - Southern Hills Warriors. Baker surrendered 11 runs on three hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Oliver Weall threw one and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen. IL - Western Tigers tallied ten hits in the game. Coyne and Firth each collected multiple hits for IL - Western Tigers. Coyne went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead IL - Western Tigers in hits. IL - Southern Hills Warriors tore up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. Charlie O'Neill led the way with two. Carine Cats 14 - Western Comets 10 Even though IL - Western Comets and IL - Carine Cats both had their opportunities, it was IL - Carine Cats that eventually prevailed 14-10 on Saturday. The game was tied at nine with IL - Carine Cats batting in the top of the sixth when Riley Groves doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. IL - Western Comets collected 11 hits and IL - Carine Cats had ten in the high-scoring affair. IL - Western Comets captured the lead in the second inning when Justin Plozza grounded out, scoring one run. IL - Western Comets scored five runs in the third inning. IL - Western Comets offense in the inning was led by Korbyn Wilson, Deakon Pribicevich, and Deakon Thomas, all driving in runs in the frame. Sienna Angeloff got the start for IL - Carine Cats. The pitcher lasted two and a third innings, allowing six hits and eight runs while striking out three. Wilson led things off on the mound for IL - Western Comets. The righthander went three and a third innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits and striking out five. Dylan Chapman threw three and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen. IL - Western Comets scattered 11 hits in the game. Thomas, Noah Forrest, and Wilson all had multiple hits for IL - Western Comets. Thomas led IL - Western Comets with three hits in five at bats. IL - Western Comets tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Thomas led the way with three. IL - Carine Cats racked up ten hits in the game. Groves, Sebastian Noto, Riley Hay, and Oliver Wilkinson each collected multiple hits for IL - Carine Cats. IL - Carine Cats stole 16 bases during the game as four players stole more than one. Tyler Mann led the way with five. Eastern Phantoms 10 - Carine Cats 1 IL - Eastern Phantoms defeated IL - Carine Cats 10-1 thanks to a strong start. IL - Eastern Phantoms scored on a passed ball during Eita Samukawa's at bat in the first inning, a single by Adam Taylor in the second inning, and a groundout by Cooper Murphy in the second inning. IL - Eastern Phantoms notched three runs in the third inning. The offensive firepower by IL - Eastern Phantoms was led by Ryan Warner and Luke Del Borrello, who each had RBIs in the inning. Toby Franklin got the start for IL - Eastern Phantoms. The pitcher went five innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out five. Callum Jack was on the hill for IL - Carine Cats. The lefthander allowed ten hits and nine runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Tyler Mann threw two innings in relief. IL - Eastern Phantoms launched one home run on the day. George Calverley had a dinger in the fourth inning. IL - Eastern Phantoms collected 12 hits. Benjamin Nesbit, Franklin, and Taylor all had multiple hits for IL - Eastern Phantoms. Nesbit led IL - Eastern Phantoms with three hits in four at bats. Riley Hay went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead IL - Carine Cats in hits. Wanneroo Giants 17 - Western Tigers 7 An early lead helped IL - Wanneroo Giants defeat IL - Western Tigers 17-7 on Saturday. IL - Wanneroo Giants scored on a groundout by Cameron Bahr, a groundout by Tom Williams, and a single by Judd MacNeil in the first inning. Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. IL - Wanneroo Giants collected 16 hits and IL - Western Tigers had eight. After IL - Western Tigers scored one run in the top of the fourth, IL - Wanneroo Giants answered with one of their own. IL - Western Tigers scored when Junseok (Daniel) Kim grounded out, scoring one run. IL - Wanneroo Giants then answered when MacNeil hit a solo homer. IL - Wanneroo Giants put up six runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by IL - Wanneroo Giants was led by Oliver Newham, Thomas Plummer, Chase Shortland, and Bahr, all driving in runs in the frame. IL - Western Tigers scored three runs in the fifth inning. The offensive firepower by IL - Western Tigers was led by Kim and Clayton Nurse, all knocking in runs in the inning. Quinn Fatai was on the pitcher's mound for IL - Wanneroo Giants. Fatai allowed six hits and three runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one. Lachlan Firth was on the hill for IL - Western Tigers. Firth lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing ten hits and ten runs while striking out one. Mavrick Bloor threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. IL - Wanneroo Giants launched one home run on the day. MacNeil went yard in the fourth inning. IL - Wanneroo Giants racked up 16 hits on the day. Newham, MacNeil, Fatai, Plummer, and Bahr each managed multiple hits for IL - Wanneroo Giants. Fatai, MacNeil, and Newham all had three hits to lead IL - Wanneroo Giants. IL - Wanneroo Giants stole 19 bases during the game as six players stole more than one. Fatai led the way with five.
