Baseball WA is pleased to announce that Sam Kennelly will coach an Intermediate League Tiger Academy Team.
Kennelly is a former professional infielder with the Pittsburgh Pirates and current Perth Heat player. Kennelly is excited to lead one of the IL Tiger Academy teams and share his knowledge with his squad. As a reminder, registration for Tiger Academy will remain open through Saturday, 29 February. Click HERE to learn more and register for Tiger Academy. Registrations for Tiger Academy will remain open for the next few weeks, closing on Saturday, 29 February at 11 pm.
Baseball WA encourages regional players who are not in a charter team to register for Tiger Academy, which is an excellent opportunity for junior players who wish to participate in the State Championships and be considered for the Bronco team. Please note that there are no tryouts for Tiger Academy. Everyone who is eligible and registered will be put into a team. Once teams are finalised and put together, the coached will organise training sessions to bring the kids together. For more information on Tiger Academy and to register today, please click HERE. Baseball WA is pleased to advise that our very own Tim Kennelly, a legend of Team Australia and Perth Heat, has been appointed Head Coach of the Australia West team that will compete at the Palomino Asia Pacific tournament to be held in Korea in June/July.
Kennelly has had a long and decorated baseball career, winning the Helms Award twice as the most outstanding player in the ABL and serving as captain of the national men's team. Kennelly previously played professionally with both the Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers. Announcements regarding the appointment of two assistant coaches will be made in due course. The Australia West team will be selected from those players of League Age 17 or 18 participating in Big League competition. Players from a club without a Big League team are encouraged to nominate. Additional information and the nomination portal are located on the Palomino page HERE. The coaching staff and Baseball WA would like to thank and congratulate the following players who have been selected to represent the Open Women’s Heat team at the National Championships in Canberra in April. We wish you all the very best!
Braves 10-11 Carine Cats
W: Peter Reyes (5-4), L: Misja Harcksen (6-2) The Carine Cats kicked off the Week 16 fixtures in stunning fashion, scoring three runs in the bottom of the tenth inning walk off the Braves 11-10. Trailing 10-8 after the Braves scored two runs in the top of the tenth, second baseman Cameron Landy came up clutch – smacking a three-run triple to deep centre field to clear the bases and hand the Cats victory. Landy made his only hit of the game count, as he finished with a team-high four RBIs. Braves left fielder Graeme Scorer matched him with four RBIs of his own, including an RBI single to put the Braves on top in extras. Carine had other ideas, however, walking off the game with Peter Reyes collecting the win. |
