Baseball WA wishes to acknowledge the incredible success of our baseball community on and off the field so far this season.
The past 12 months in particular are a testament to the strong foundation of supporters throughout every level of the game, from grassroots clubs to high-performance programs. “It’s been so wonderful to see the many achievements of our baseball community as people of all ages enjoy our great game,” BWA CEO Lachlan Dale said. “The strength of our grassroots sport is apparent as WA teams continuously perform at a high level on the national stage. We are proud to offer a pathway for players to fall in love with the game and continue to improve through numerous participation, development, and representative opportunities.” “I want to congratulate all members of the WA baseball community on their efforts and accomplishments over the past year. Swan Districts, Perth, Morely, Wanneroo, South Perth, Victoria Park Belmont, and Braves recorded important wins in Harcher State League over the weekend. Swan Districts 6, Carine 3 Carine Cats watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 6-3 loss to Swan Districts Swans on Wednesday. Swan Districts scored on a fielder's choice by Maverick Hamilton and a single by Daniel Johnston in the first inning. Joshua Harvey led the Swan Districts Swans (SL1) to victory on the pitcher's mound. The fireballer allowed four hits and two runs over two innings, striking out two. Dillian Clarkson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Tim Robinson took the loss for Carine. The bulldog lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out one and walking zero. Marshall Shill started the game for Swan Districts. The ace went three innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out five and walking zero. Joshua Davies led Carine with two hits in two at-bats. Swan Districts racked up nine hits. Johnston went 3-for-3 and Anthony Daniele also recorded multiple hits. Perth 4, Carine 3 Saturday's game against Perth was a heartbreaker for Carine Cats as they lost the lead late in a 4-3 defeat. Perth was down 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning when Brayden Moyle doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring three runs. Perth got things moving in the first inning when Edgar Mundarain singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Carine evened things up at one in the bottom of the second inning. Tarrant Reimers drove in one when Reimers singled. Devon Ramirez-Beaver earned the victory on the hill for Perth. The pitcher allowed two hits and one run over one inning, striking out one and walking zero. Reimers took the loss for Carine. The bulldog allowed six hits and four runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven. Peter Reyes started the game for Perth. Reyes went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out four. Carine scattered six hits in the game. Olal Carter and Cas Silber had two hits apiece. Perth racked up seven hits as Mundarain and Moyle had two each. Perth 13, Carine 6 Carine Cats lost the lead late in a 13-6 defeat to Perth on Saturday. Perth trailed 6-5 in the top of the eighth inning when Brayden Moyle's sac fly scored two runs. Despite the loss, Carine did collect five hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately for the Cats, Perth had 17 hits on the way to victory. In the bottom of the first inning, Carine tied things up at two as Jack Angeloff drew a walk, scoring one run. Perth captured the lead in the second inning, scoring two runs when Brady Oliphant doubled. Matteo Pizziconi took the win for Perth, throwing two and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out three. Jordan Moore threw four and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Jacob Stanton took the loss for Carine, lasting two and a third innings, allowing nine hits and eight runs. Cruze Brendon started the game for Perth, going one and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on one hit and striking out one. James Hookway started the game for Carine. The bulldog lasted six innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out one. Perth tallied two home runs on the day as Devon Ramirez-Beaver went yard in the eighth inning and Moyle went deep in the ninth. Brendan Heath went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Carine in hits. Perth totaled 17 hits. Ramirez-Beaver went 4-for-5 while Ezzard Bryant, Oliphant, Moyle, and Ronnie Sweeny all collected multiple hits, too. Perth tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Ramirez-Beaver led the way with three. Morley 2, Braves 1 Both teams were strong on the hill Sunday, but Morley Eagles defeated Braves 2-1. Morley Eagles pitchers allowed just three hits to Braves. Morley got on the board in the first inning as Zac McMillin singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs. Todd Murphy was the winning pitcher for Morley. He went two and a third innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out two and walking one. Tucker Smith took the loss for Braves. Smith went six innings, allowing three runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts. Kodai Hamaya started the game for Morley. The hurler allowed two hits and one run over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Jesse Williams went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Morley in hits. The Eagles' didn't commit a single error in the field as Williams had the most chances with ten. Wanneroo 3, Rockingham 0 Tom Bailey allowed just five hits with no runs as Wanneroo Giants defeated Rockingham Rams 3-0 on Sunday. The pitching was strong on both sides. Bailey struck out three, while Vinnie Tarantola sat down four. Wanneroo got started in the first as an error scored two runs. One bright spot for Rockingham was a single by Mitchell Field in the third inning. Bailey led the Giants to victory on the mound. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing zero runs on five hits and striking out three. Tarantola took the loss for Rockingham. The lefty allowed six hits and three runs over six innings, striking out four and walking one. Ethan Cooper led Wanneroo with two hits in four at-bats. Jesse Sequeira went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Rockingham in hits. South Perth 5, Wembley 4 Despite a four-run deficit in the third inning, Wembley Magpies almost came all the way back, eventually falling 5-4 to South Perth Souths on Sunday. Wembley scored four runs in the failed comeback on a walk by Riley Spring, a single by Lukas Bickel, a walk by Jake Willson, and a single by Joshua Houston. Wembley was right in it until South Perth scored in the fifth inning. It all started in the first when Cameron Landy drove in two for South Perth. Wembley knotted the game up at four in the bottom of the third inning, when Houston singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run. Wembley scored four runs in the third inning. The offense was led by Spring, Bickel, Willson, and Houston, all driving in runs. Caleb Goodwin was on the pitcher's mound for South Perth. The righthander allowed six hits and four runs over five innings, striking out three. Chris Crawford was on the mound for Wembley. The hurler went five innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out two. Spring threw one inning out of the bullpen. Houston went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Wembley in hits. The Magpies stole six bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Eita Samukawa led the way with two. Landy led South Perth with two hits in four at bats. South Perth tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Jaxon Limpus led the way with three. Vic Park Belmont 7, Gosnells 1 Victoria Park Belmont Reds asserted their will over Gosnells Hawks on their way to an easy 7-1 victory. The Reds got things started in the first inning when Sean Garratt hit a solo homer. They notched three more runs in the sixth inning with a walk by Ryan Boyer and a single by Zac Meloncelli. Matthew Martin was credited with the victory for Vic Park Belmont. The ace lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out three. Liam Baron took the loss for Gosnells. Baron lasted five innings, allowing nine hits and four runs while striking out six and walking one. The Reds tallied one home run on the day. Garratt went for the long ball in the first inning. Victoria Park collected 11 hits on the day. Joshua Greenham, Meloncelli, and Mikulas Hanus all had two hits apiece. Braves 12, Morley 2 Morley Eagles fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 12-2 loss to Braves on Sunday. Braves scored on a single by Tim Kennelly in the first inning and a single by Josh Kennelly in the third inning. Braves scored eight runs in the eighth thanks to walks by Cody Parkinson and Jack Rigden, singles by Tucker Smith and Jordan Dyer, and a triple by Joel Beches. Flynn McGahan was the winning pitcher for Braves. The righthander surrendered one run on five hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out six. Lochy Southee took the loss for Morley. Southee went four innings, allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Campbell Froude started the game for Braves. The ace lasted two and a third innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out one. Morley totaled nine hits. Kieran Chapman went 3-for-4 as Luke Hughes and Brandon Migro collected multiple hits, too. Braves had 12 hits in the game. Dyer had three hits in five at-bats as Braves didn't commit a single error in the field. Kevin Clark had the most chances with ten. Wanneroo 10, Rockingham 6 Bats were blistered as Wanneroo Giants defeated Rockingham Rams 10-6 on Sunday. Wanneroo got on the board in the second inning when Jacob Santich doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run. Rockingham scored three runs in the ninth inning with RBIs from Finlay Duncan and Joshua Diggins. Frazer Brice earned the win for Wanneroo. The righthander allowed six hits and three runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking zero. Jordan Matos and Jay Bullingham pitched in relief. Brock Molloy took the loss for Rockingham. The hurler lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out two. Wanneroo tallied 12 hits in the game, including three apiece for Santich and Byron Armstrong. Courtney Jones had multiple hits, too. Rockingham collected nine hits with multi-hit games for Thomas Flynn, Tomas Swinson, and Diggins. South Perth 17, Wembley 4 Wembley Magpies fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 17-4 loss to South Perth Souths on Sunday. South Perth scored on a single by Haden Keller and an error in the first inning. Wembley added three runs in the fourth with RBIs from Matic Lesnjak and Riley Spring. South Perth scored six runs in the fifth. Caleb Goodwin, Jai Hewitt, Kent Fitzgibbons, and Jaxon Limpus all contributed in the big inning with RBIs. Joshua Rawlinson took the win for South Perth. Rawlinson went four innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out two and walking one. Henry Kellen took the loss for Wembley. The bulldog surrendered five runs on six hits over four innings, striking out one and walking one. Cameron Ballantine started the game for South Perth. The bulldog lasted four innings, allowing one hit and four runs while striking out three. Joshua Houston went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Wembley in hits. South Perth saw the ball well, racking up 15 hits in the game. Keller, Hewitt, Adam Barbarich, Limpus, and Max Wheeler each had multiple hits. Keller led the team with three hits in five at-bats. Vic Park Belmont 16, Gosnells 9 Sean Garratt did the opposing team no favors on Sunday, picking up four hits over six at-bats and leading Victoria Park Belmont Reds to a 16-9 win over Gosnells Hawks. Garratt singled in the first, doubled in the second, singled in the fifth, and singled in the eighth. The Reds got things started in the first inning when Jack Smalpage reached on a dropped third strike. Gosnells scored five runs in the fourth inning, but the Reds still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning came thanks to a walk by Eli Von Garsen and a home run by Taj Varga. Vic Park Belmont tallied four runs in the fifth inning. The offensive onslaught came from a single by Zac Meloncelli, a groundout by Josh Paull, and a double by Mikulas Hanus. Curtis Bacon was the winning pitcher for the Reds. He threw one and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out two. Paull threw three and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Patrick Frezza took the loss for Gosnells. The pitcher allowed seven hits and seven runs over two and a third innings, striking out three and walking one. Daniel Meloncelli started the game for the Reds, allowing two hits and five runs over four innings, striking out four. Vic Park Belmont had 13 hits in the game. Garratt, Hanus, and Joshua Greenham all had multiple hits as Garratt went 4-for-6 at the plate to lead the side. The Reds were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Baseball WA is excited to announce Peel Diamond Sports will host the 2023 Think Again Junior League & Senior League State Championships.
The second weekend of State Champs will run from 12-16 April and incorporate a Women’s All-Star Series alongside all the exciting junior baseball action. “Peel Diamond Sports are extremely excited to be provided with the opportunity to host this incredible tournament,” President Tara Johns said. “This event is a huge opportunity to showcase baseball at a high level to people throughout the Peel region and beyond. We look forward to welcoming all charters/players/families and spectators to our Lakelands facilities and to be spoilt with a brilliant five days of competition baseball.” Last year’s champions Eastern Phantoms Junior League and Western Tigers Senior League will be searching for repeat success at the tournament, with the champions moving on to Nationals in May. “Thank you to Peel Diamond Sports for hosting the 2023 Junior & Senior League State Championships at Lakelands Park,” BWA Participation Manager David Hayes said. “It’s sure to be an amazing tournament with action-packed games in a fantastic location as our top junior players give it their all on the field.” Tournament season will kick off with Little League Division 1, Division 2, Intermediate League, and Machine Pitch at Wanneroo from 6-10 April. We will be fielding teams in all five age divisions of the Down Under Winter Classic, which will take place on the Gold Coast QLD from 1-8 July. Please note players participating in the 2023 Think Again State Championships (including Cavaliers) will take priority in selection. Other players will be considered if there is a shortfall in nominations, and players in charter teams that qualify for national tournaments will have their nomination automatically removed. The approximate cost will be $3,200 pp to BWA plus $1,400 to DUWC which includes uniforms, flights, accommodation and meals, activities, minibus hire and fuel and sundries.
