Harcher State League Finals kick off Friday night as Perth and Vic Park face off in an elimination game. Vic Park Belmont 7, South Perth 0 South Perth Souths fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 7-0 loss to Vic Park Belmont Reds on Friday. The Reds took the lead on a Sean Garratt single in the second inning. A single by Adam Barbarich in the second was a positive for South Perth. Daniel Meloncelli got the win for the Reds, allowing two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking zero. Riley Marsh and Josh Paull entered the game out of the bullpen to pitch in relief. Kent Fitzgibbons took the loss for South Perth. The bulldog lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out one. Garratt started the game for the Reds, giving up no runs on one hit over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Jai Hewitt went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead South Perth in hits. The Reds had ten hits in the game as Jack Smalpage went 3-for-4 and Curtis Bacon also had multiple hits. The Reds didn’t commit a single error in the field as Smalpage had the most chances with ten. Rockingham 9, Perth 7 Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Sunday in a high-scoring affair where Rockingham Rams bested Perth, 9-7. Perth fired up the offense in the first inning. Edgar Mundarain drove in two on a single. Rockingham pulled away for good with three runs in the fifth inning. Thomas Flynn doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run and Jesse Sequeira doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. Perth scored three runs in the third inning on a home run by Mundarain. Brock Molloy pitched Rockingham to victory. The hurler lasted five innings, allowing two hits and six runs while striking out three. Stuart Sara threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen, recording the last 12 outs to earn the save. Kaine Newham took the loss for Perth. The righthander surrendered three runs on two hits over two-thirds of an inning. Guillaume Dupont-Duguay started the game for Perth. Wembley scored three runs in the eighth inning with RBIs from Henry Kellen and Jacob Davila, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. A single by Daniel Johnston in the second inning was a positive for Swan Districts Swans. Chris Crawford led things off on the pitcher's mound for Wembley. The hurler surrendered zero runs on three hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one. Dillian Clarkson started the game for Swan Districts. The bulldog surrendered two runs on six hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one. Dustin Brown threw two innings in relief. Wembley tallied seven hits in the game, including two hits apiece for Davila and Lukas Bickel. Wembley didn't commit a single error in the field as Matic Lesnjak had 11 chances, the most on the team. The Pony World Series in Tochigi, Japan runs from 31 July to 4 August. WA plans to send two teams: 16-and-over and 15-and-younger. The plan is to depart on 29 July and fly home on 6 August. Subject to confirmation, the trip will also include a half day tour of Tokyo and time at Disneyland. If time and the schedule allow, the teams may go to a NPB professional baseball game (to be confirmed). Player cost is approx $4,100 inclusive of all tournament fees, uniforms, meals, flights, ground transport, accommodation, coaching staff and some cultural events. BWA has appointed Ben Meier as head coach of the 16-and-over team and Beyanka Girdlestone as head coach of the 15-and-under team. Brianna Leeson will serve as EO. After a successful inaugural event with this new national tournament for youth girls aged 13-16, BWA is excited to welcome the Barclay Cup to Perth. “We can’t wait for the 2023 Barclay Cup at Carine Cats Baseball Club,“ BWA Participation Manager David Hayes said. “Thank you to Carine for stepping up to the plate to host this exciting tournament that gives junior girls the chance to shine on the national stage and play with their peers from around the country. We had great feedback from the first tournament and look forward to an even bigger and better event later this year.” Carine’s strong base of volunteers is also excited about this fantastic opportunity to host a national event. “Carine Cats Baseball Club, WA is thrilled to be hosting the second ever Barclay Cup in 2023, honouring our local and multitalented sportswoman Jacinda Barclay,” Carine Baseball Chairperson Dean Tierney said. “We welcome the players, coaches, umpires, scorers, volunteers, family, and friends representing baseball teams from all the states and territories of Australia and internationally.
