Congratulations to Eastern Phantoms on winning silver at #ASLC2023!
What an amazing run for the Phantoms - they won four in a row to head into the gold medal game undefeated. The team battled hard til the end with a four-run rally in this afternoon’s game vs. Ryde Hawks, ultimately falling just short 6-4. We are so proud of this team and everything they accomplished - the future is very bright for these Phantoms! Wembley Baseball Club has announced the appointment of Nick Alexiou as State League head coach for the 2023/24 season.
A well-known player and coach at the club and around the league, Alexiou has served as Wembley's junior development coach for the past three seasons and most recently coached State League Reserves. He previously coached Pro League, West Coast Rays, and Senior League Charter. Alexiou has regularly played State League and has had selections with Perth Heat. Early in his career, he was selected to represent British Columbia in a tournament of the best-on-best U18 players in Canada. “It’s an honour and privilege to be given the reigns to our State League program next year," Alexiou said. "I’m extremely excited to start laying the foundation for what it means to be a Magpie and to compete at the highest level at our club. I’d like to thank Reed Morris, Joris van Ballegooy, Shane Warner and the rest of the committee for believing in my ability to take our club to the next level.” Stay up-to-date with more Wembley news HERE. Baseball Australia has confirmed the Emeralds squad for the 2023 World Cup, with five WA Women's State Team players set to represent Australia on the world stage. Congratulations to WA's very own Kelsey Brennan, Leah Cornish, Caitlin Eynon, Meaghan Haggart, and Elodie O'Sullivan on this amazing accomplishment off the back of a gold medal finish at the Australian Women's Championship last month. Australia will be one of six teams placed in Group A with Canada, USA, Mexico and two qualifiers coming from the upcoming Asian Women’s Baseball Championship. The Emeralds will battle the competition in Group A action in Thunder Bay, Canada in August 2023.
Group B will take part in Japan in September. Unlike other years and editions of the World Cup, this competition will take place over two years. The top two teams from each group, plus two wild cards, will advance to the final group stage in August 2024 where the competition will return to Thunder Bay to determine the World Champion. The 2024 tournament will be the ninth edition of the Women’s Baseball World Cup. Australia has traditionally fared well at the World Cup, finishing in the top 4 on six occasions with their best result being a silver medal in 2010. Read the full Emeralds announcement HERE.
