Western Australia secured its first win of the 2022 Australian Women’s Baseball Championship on Saturday at West Beach.
Yuki Ishikawa and Megan Everitt each drove in three runs as WA completed an impressive 20-1 win over Australian Capital Territory on diamond two. ACT responded in the bottom of the second on a Maddison Erwin groundball. Western Australia scored the next 18 runs to secure an emphatic win and level their record at 1-1. A nine-run fourth headlined the big win. Ishikawa and Everitt both finished with three RBIs on three hits. Kaila Borgomastro, Ebony Hinchliffe, Butler, Joneen Houghton and Faith Neretlis all had two RBIs. WA starter Meahgan Haggert struck out six in three one-run innings. Grace Spano and Briah Burke tossed scoreless relief innings, with Spano striking out three batters. Western Australia finished with 17 hits to three while seven errors hurt ACT’s chances.
