The baseball community came together for the Baseball WA Awards Night on Tuesday 30 March 2021 at Beaumonde On The Point. The evening was an opportunity to celebrate achievements across all levels of baseball in WA, and this year was highlighted by the inaugural presentation of the Baseball WA Hall of Fame.
With a proud and prestigious history, Baseball WA’s Hall of Fame honoured the “best of the best” spanning playing eras from the 1930’s – early 2000’s. In total, 34 players and official were inducted to the inaugural Hall of Fame. Baseball WA CEO Lachlan Dale offered insight into significance of the Hall of Fame came and ow it came to life. He also had the honour of inducting all Hall of Fame members. Hall of Fame inductee Simon Eissens spoke on behalf of the inductees. “It is an honour and a privilege and truly humbling to be part of the rich history of baseball in WA,” Eissens said. In a passionate and highly inspiring speech, Eissens also told the crowd the Hall of Fame was more than a token gesture. “Many of us who had given our hearts and souls to the game we loved and it has just given us back something a little bit special,” Eissens said. “We are Claxton Shield winners, life members, president medallists. We are major leaguers, professional players, world champions, Olympians, Australian players and World Series winners.” As the crowd rose to their feet to toast the baseball greats who gained legendary status, looking around the room all you could sense was pride; for those inducted were more than ballplayers: they were friends, colleagues, husbands, fathers, uncles, coaches and idols. Now they will forever be remembered as the greatest the West has ever seen.
