Baseball WA is excited to launch a new Women’s Super League for the 2019-20 season. The Super League will comprise of Western Australia’s most talented female baseball players – providing them with an opportunity to compete at a high level on a regular basis. Baseball WA Participation Programs Manager, David Hayes hopes the new league will inspire more females to play baseball. “Baseball WA has a renewed focus on participation - especially programs designed to increase the number of participants playing our great game,” Hayes said.
“Female participation is a major focus of that effort." “The Women’s Super League provides a pathway for our athletes who want to take their game to the next level and for athletes from outside our sport looking for new challenges and pathways to display their talent.” Women’s Baseball Coordinator Peter Torpy says the inception of the Super League has been a long time coming. “For a number of years now, we have worked on a way to improve the pathways and opportunities available to our female athletes - this is the perfect opportunity,” he said. “This will provide a platform that will drive the participation and standard of women’s baseball to the next level. “It will be an important platform to provide our aspiring athletes with a higher level of competition placing them in good stead when competing at Nationals and for the Emeralds. “We hope to start bringing back previous players that we may have lost to other sports by having this level of competition.” The league will include two teams – the Jets and the Force who will compete against each other and Baseball WA’s pre-existing Big League 1 sides between October and March. A draft to determine the rest of the players will take place next month along with the release of fixtures. Stay tuned to the Baseball WA website and social media for further updates.
