Well done to all our grand finalists on a fantastic 2022/23 season! GameChanger Grand Final Recaps North Division 1: Wanneroo 5, Morley 2 Wanneroo Giants beat Morley Eagles 5-2 on Sunday. Wanneroo pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. Jason Burns singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, Sam Zurzolo singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, and David Bandy singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Burns led the Wanneroo to victory on the mound. The pitcher lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero. Benjamin Lawrance took the loss for Morley. The pitcher surrendered five runs on ten hits over six innings, striking out six and walking one. Bandy started the game for Wanneroo, lasting four and a third innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out four and walking one. Pat Kimber, Burns, Sean Hunter, Bandy, Daniel Wildman, Zurzolo, Michael Whitney, Mitchell Matteoli, Mark Versteegen, and Brett Plummer each collected one hit to lead Wanneroo. Daniel Withers led Morley with two hits in two at bats. The Eagles didn't commit a single error in the field as Withers had six chances, the most on the team. North Division 2: Balcatta 7, Wanneroo 1 Four runs in the fourth inning led Balcatta Bears past Wanneroo Giants 7-1 on Sunday. Balcatta's big bats in the inning included singles by Dan Bailey and Brad Gaynor and a double by Caleb Day. Balcatta opened up scoring in the first inning, when Day singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. The Bears tallied four runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Bailey and Gaynor and a double by Day. Bailey was the winning pitcher for Balcatta. The righty allowed three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out one and walking zero. Paul Salomon threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Adam Carr took the loss for Wanneroo. The hurler went six innings, allowing seven runs on 11 hits, striking out five and walking zero. Balcatta collected 11 hits. Gaynor, Day, and Jan Wittnebel had two hits apiece as the team didn't commit a single error in the field. Gaynor had the most chances with nine. Balcatta stole 12 bases during the game as four players stole more than one. Wittnebel led the way with three. Wanneroo had eight hits in the game, including multiple for Andrew Batten and Jarod Mann. North Division 3: Carine 12, Balcatta 4 Four hits from James Strickland helped lead the way for Carine Cats Black over Balcatta Bears 12-4 on Sunday. Strickland singled in the first, second, third, and fourth. Balcatta got their offense started in the first inning when an error scored one run. However, Carine pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. Strickland singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, Kade Harvey doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs, Bryn Harvey singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, and Simon Whitehead singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Carine notched six runs in the third inning. The offensive firepower was led by Strickland, Harvey, Whitehead, and Dustin Bope, all knocking in runs in the inning. Harvey was the winning pitcher for Carine. The pitcher went four innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out five and walking one. Jason Laing led things off on the mound for Balcatta. The hurler surrendered 12 runs on 16 hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Carine racked up 16 hits on the day. Strickland, Harvey, Daniel Hudson, and Whitehead each had multiple hits as Strickland went 4-for-4 at the plate. Carine tore up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. Strickland led the way with three. South Division 1: Peel 9, Kwinana 3 Peel Mariners defeated Kwinana Blue Jays 9-3 thanks to a strong start. Peel Mariners scored on a single by Anthony Edwards, a groundout by Walter Washington Jr, and a groundout by Tor Romslow in the first inning. Peel tallied three runs in the fourth inning. The big inning was thanks to a single by Brett Snowden and an error on a ball put in play by Pegg. After Kwinana scored one run in the top of the sixth, Peel answered with one of their own. Kwinana scored when Ben Williams grounded out, scoring one run. Peel Mariners then answered when Adam Pegg grounded out, scoring one run. Clinton Jack led Peel to victory on the hill. Jack went six innings, allowing three runs on one hit and striking out four. Steve Locker took the loss for Kwinana. The southpaw lasted three innings, allowing three hits and five runs while walking zero. Peel launched one home run on the day. Snowden had a long ball in the third inning. Peel racked up eight hits in the game, including multiple hits for Edwards, Snowden, and Rhys Waller. Edwards went 3-for-3 and had three of the team's seven stolen bases. South Division 2: Vic Park Belmont 22, Kelmscott 6 Kelmscott Bulldogs fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 22-6 loss to Victoria Park Belmont on Sunday. The Reds scored on a single by Russell Taylor, a walk by Justin Brown, and a single by Jason Bulner in the first inning. Despite the loss, Kelmscott did collect five hits in the high-scoring affair. The Reds had 15 hits on the way to victory. Kelmscott put up four runs in the third inning with RBIs from Riley Bond and Lachlan Collins. The Reds responded with nine of their own in the fourth inning, thanks to RBIs from Steve McCullough, Brendan Cebalo, Paul Harry, Joe Dunsire, Michael Greenham, and Brad Martin. Taylor earned the win for the Reds, lasting four innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out six. Ryan Prosser took the loss for Kelmscott, throwing two innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out one and walking one. Rhegan Prosser started the game for Kelmscott.The pitcher surrendered four runs on two hits over two-thirds of an inning. Kris Clampett, Peter Butler, Bond, Hunter Butler, and Collins all had one hit to lead Kelmscott. Bond led the Bulldogs with two of the team's seven stolen bases. The Reds scattered 15 hits in the game, including multiple for Harry, Dunsire, Cebalo, Bulner, and Taylor. Harry went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Reds in hits. South Division 3: Roleystone 13, Vic Park Belmont 4 Ashton Hawkins would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base, driving in four on two hits to lead Roleystone past Victoria Park Belmont Reds 13-4. Hawkins drove in runs on doubles in the first and third. The Reds scored three runs in the fourth inning but Roleystone still managed to pull out the victory. Bodee Huckle and Jacob Sullivan powered the big inning with RBIs. Logan McEvoy earned the win for Roleystone. The righty went one-third of an inning, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out one and walking one. Vic Park Belmont's Cameron Hanson gave up zero runs on one hit over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking zero. Jayden Lake started the game for Roleystone. Lake allowed six hits and four runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking one. Jason Harvey started the game for Vic Park Belmont. The bulldog surrendered seven runs on seven hits over one inning, striking out one. Roleystone tallied ten hits in the game. Nathan Cleva, Hawkins, and Sean Kenworthy all managed multiple hits as the team stole seven bases during the game.
