The inaugural Diamond League competition got underway at Empire Ballpark on Wednesday night, with the Scorpions overpowering Stingrays 11-6.
In the first inning, Scorpions got their offense started when Curtis Bacon singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs. Stingrays knotted the game up at three in the bottom of the second inning, when Dillion Hopkins-Treloar singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. Scorpions pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. Bacon singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run and Brayden Crombie drew a walk, scoring one run. Scorpions scored six runs in the fourth inning with RBIs from Ben Warrington, Josh Paul, Cameron Harapeate, Bacon, and Callum Hurrelbrink. Mitch Forrest led things off on the hill for Scorpions. The ace surrendered zero runs on two hits over one inning, striking out one and walking zero. Nick Davis toed the rubber for Stingrays. The hurler went two innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out two. Nathan Smith, Dylan Bowker, and Josh Dass each contributed in relief for Stingrays.
