Five WA players have been named to the Boral Team Australia roster ahead of an upcoming series against the Doosan Bears, the reigning KBO champions. Three young standout players from Perth Heat have made the cut, including catcher Alex Hall, outfielder Ulrich Bojarksi and pitcher Mitch Neunborn. This trio was not on Team Australia’s Premier12 roster, but they will be part of the team alongside veterans Tim Kennelly and Daniel Schmidt. Kennelly will once again captain Boral Team Australia while Neunborn and Bojarski take advantage of their first selections to the national team. Robbie Glendinning was not considered for selection due to his commitments in the U.S. Andy Kyle, Baseball WA High Performance Manager, says this will be a fantastic opportunity for these players who have progressed through the state’s development opportunities to professional baseball. “All of these players have had great ABL seasons, and they’ll bring a mix of skills and leadership to the team,” Kyle said. “Neunborn has been impressive since making his Perth Heat debut against Sydney in December, and Bojarski hit six home runs this season with more than half of his hits going for extra bases. It’s also a huge honor for Hall to be named to the team alongside legendary veteran catcher Allan de San Miguel.”
Boral Team Australia will take on a two-game series against the Bears in Geelong, marking an important step ahead of April’s last-chance Olympic qualifier in Taiwan. The games are set for Sunday, 16 February and Tuesday, 18 February. Baseball WA congratulates these players and looks ahead to seeing their success with Boral Team Australia.
