Baseball WA has moved the start of Pony Girls League games to Term 1 to allow more teams and players to join in the fun.
Pony Girls League offers females League Age 13 to 16 the opportunity to play in a "league of their own" (age as at 31/8/23). In order to ensure everyone who wants to play has an opportunity to do so, we have taken the decision to delay the start of the formal competition until Term 1. In the interim, clubs that have already formed teams will be participating in a pre-Christmas competition to ensure they are getting game time as well as training (contact your local club for details). “We remain committed to the Pony Girls programs but in order for the League to be vibrant and functional this season, we will need to delay the start of the games until Term 1,” BWA Participation Manager David Hayes said. “Thank you to all the players who have already registered, and we strongly encourage any junior girls interested in playing to sign up for an awesome season ahead.” Pony Girls League will now start on Sunday 5 February and wrap up prior to Easter. There will be additional midweek games at Empire Ballpark and Wanneroo Giants Baseball Club. This means that both the Pony Girls League (for 13 to 16 yo) and Pony Girls Futures (for 10 to 13 yo) will operate concurrently. We also have exciting news regarding the 2023 Pony Girls tournaments. Pony has announced that a World Series tournament will take place in Tokyo, Japan during the first week of August 2023 (report date 30 July) in two age divisions:
To be eligible for the 12 to 14yo team, players MUST participate in either the Pony Girls League or Futures programs or a Regional WA program. Female players who play club ball but choose not to play Pony Girls are not eligible. For the open team, players only need to be BWA registered. There will be plenty on offer for female athletes to participate in as BWA also looks forward to hosting the 2023 Barclay Cup for Under 17’s (as at 31/8/23) and the return of the Australian Youth Women’s Championship. More updates on these tournaments will be provided in the coming months, and in the meantime BWA looks forward to a successful Pony Girls League season with the support of participating clubs and our baseball community.
