:Baseball WA is pleased to confirm the teams and fixtures for the inaugural Senior Baseball Club Championship, which will take place across five days from 25 to 31 March 2021 at Empire Ballpark in Thornlie.
The championship will incorporate five teams across Baseball WA’s top competitions: the regional champion from Port Hedland, the top three clubs from State League 3 and the top club from A Grade at the end of the regular season. Congratulations to the following clubs on qualifying:
Please note West Stirling qualified as the top seed in A Grade in front of second-seed Kalamunda but unfortunately needed to withdraw due to circumstances beyond their control. This leaves five teams with a full round robin format including four games per team and the grand final. There will be no limit to a team’s squad size for the tournament, though a restriction of 14 players per game will be enforced. Players must be eligible to play finals in State League 3 or lower. The 2020/21 State League 1 season is nearly over with Wanneroo, Braves, and Morley in prime position heading towards finals. Read recaps from recent games and view fixtures, results and standings HERE. Braves Baseball Club 7 v Perth Baseball Club 2 The Braves stole the lead late in a 7-2 victory over Perth on Friday. The game was tied at one with the Braves batting in the bottom of the fourth when Sean Garratt's sac fly scored one run. Kevin Clark doubled on a 2-1 count to bring in a run too. The Braves went on to record five runs in the fifth inning with RBIs from Jack Rigden and Sam Kennelly. Alex Oehme was credited with the victory, lasting two innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out four and walking zero. Flynn McGahan and Cameron Lamb entered the game out of the bullpen after Daniel Schmidt started, giving up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out two. Matt Durbin took the loss for Perth. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out four and walking zero. The Braves launched one home run on the day. Kennelly had a four bagger in the fifth inning. Daniel Choi and Jordan Dyer had hits too. Victoria Park Belmont Reds 0 v Wembley Magpies 3 Victoria Park Belmont fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 3-0 loss to Wembley on Saturday. The Magpies scored in the first inning on doubles by Riley Spring and Nick Alexiou. The pitching was strong on both sides as Wembley's pitchers struck out ten and Victoria Park Belmont sat down nine. A single by Jack Smalpage in the seventh inning was a positive for the Reds, although Alexiou proved tough to beat in his start. The righthander surrendered zero runs on one hit over seven innings, striking out ten and walking zero. Corey Brown led things off on the mound for the Reds, lasting four innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out five. Jason Armstrong and Mitchell Bacon entered the game as relief, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one and one-third innings respectively. Smalpage went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead the Reds in hits while Spring had two hits in three at bats for Wembley. The Magpies take an 8-19 record into the next games at Rockingham and Carine. Gosnells Hawks 2 v Rockingham Rams 3 Gosnells stayed in it until the end, but Rockingham pulled away late in a 3-2 victory on Sunday afternoon. The game was tied at two with Rockingham batting in the top of the sixth when an error scored one run. Rockingham pitchers struck out eight, while Gosnells sat down six. The Rams got things moving in the first when Chase Diggins hit a solo homer. Cayden Nicoletto drove in one on a single in the third. He was the winning pitcher for Rockingham, throwing six innings, allowing two runs on three hits, and striking out eight. Diggins threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Joshua Silvi took the loss for Gosnells. The righthander surrendered three runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking one. Callan Silvi, Lee Wisby, and Liam Collins each collected one hit. Gosnells Hawks 2 v Rockingham Rams 3 The second game of the day between these two teams ended the same as the first with the Rams just edging the Hawks. The game was tied at one with Rockingham batting in the top of the seventh when Rui Harrison's sac fly scored one run. Rockingham pitchers recorded nine strikeouts and Gosnells had eight. The Rams fired up the offense in the third inning, when Adam Millson induced Cayden Nicoletto to hit into a fielder's choice with one run scored. Gosnells tied things up at one when Robin Adamson hit a solo homer in the fifth, but Rockingham pulled away for good in the seventh. Brock Molloy was the winning pitcher, lasting seven innings, allowing six hits, and one run while striking out six. Zachary Gomersall and Chase Diggins entered the game out of the bullpen and the latter recorded the last three outs to earn the save. Kane Silvi took the loss for the Hawks. The righthander lasted three innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out three and walking zero. Millson started the game, hurling six innings, allowing one run on five hits, striking out five and walking one. Adamson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Hawks in hits. Rockingham had eight hits total with multiple from Joshua Diggins and Gomersall, the former going 3-for-4. Rockingham didn't commit a single error in the field as Diggins had the most chances with ten. Rockingham has an 11-16 record and plays Wembley next. Gosnells has a 14-12-2 record with an elimination final at South Perth on Friday. Swan Districts Swans 14 v Carine Cats 5 Carine scored three runs in the third inning, but Swan Districts Swans still won 14-5 on Sunday. Carine's big inning was driven by a single by Cameron Landy and a fielder's choice by Jacob Stanton. The Swans got things started in the first when an error scored two runs. Carine tied things up at two in the top of the second when Aden Browne singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. The Swans took the lead for good with five runs in the fourth inning. Dan Carter's sac fly scored one run, Mitch Schofield singled on a 1-2 count to score another, and Maddux Stivey homered on a 0-1 count, bringing in three. The Swans also put up seven runs in the fifth with RBIs from Stivey, Brody Clarkson, Ashton Hamilton, and Carter. Dillian Clarkson was the winning pitcher after giving up five runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking zero. Stanton took the loss for Carine. The hurler surrendered seven runs on nine hits over four innings. Stivey homered in the fourth inning for the Swans as they collected 12 hits on the day. Carter, Schofield, Clarkson, and Dylan Bojarski all collected two hits. Carine racked up seven hits including multiple for Cody Holt and Landy. Swan Districts Swans 4 v Carine Cats 2 The Swans were victorious over Carine 4-2 in Sunday's second game. The Swans opened up scoring in the first inning, when Dylan Bojarski doubled on a 2-1 count to bring in two runs. Riley Moore got the win for the Swans, surrendering two runs on nine hits over nine innings, striking out eight and walking one. Tarrant Reimers took the loss for Carine, lasting seven innings, allowing 12 hits and four runs while striking out three. The Swans scattered 12 hits in the game, including two apiece for Brody Clarkson, Ashton Hamilton, Mitch Schofield, Maddux Stivey, and Bojarski. Carine totaled nine hits as Cameron Landy went 3-for-4 and Joel Hughes had two hits. Carine plays Wembley on Thursday while the Swans are 11-17. Wanneroo Giants 4 v Morley Eagles 3 Wanneroo snatched the lead late in the game in a 4-3 victory over Morley on Sunday. The Giants were down 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Madison Beaird singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Beaird was the winning pitcher for Wanneroo. The lefty surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two innings, striking out three and walking zero. Brendan Sing took the loss for Morley. The bulldog surrendered two runs on two hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one. Jay Bullingham started the game for Wanneroo. The pitcher allowed four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out four and walking one. Riley Franklin started the game for Morley. The pitcher went four and a third innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking one. Beaird led Wanneroo with three hits in four at bats. Aaron Bonomi went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Morley in hits. Wanneroo Giants 5 v Morley Eagles 5 The Giants tied the game on a single in the eleventh inning as Wanneroo drew Morley 5-5 in Sunday's second game. Courtney Jones went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Giants in hits. Morley collected five hits including two apiece from Brandon Migro and Joshua Lynch. The Eagles made no errors as Alex Hall had ten chances in the field, the most on the team. Wanneroo has a 24-3-1 record and Morley sits at 20-7-1 going into finals. Perth Baseball Club 2 v Victoria Park Belmont Reds 6 Perth got started in the second when Jake White hit a solo homer, but the Reds pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning as Joshua Greenham was hit by a pitch, driving in a run and Matthew Reynolds singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Trent McDonnell drew a walk to score a run too. Mathew Martin earned the win for the Reds. The pitcher allowed six hits and two runs over nine innings, striking out three. Darcy Heppleston toed the rubber for Perth, throwing two and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out three. Guillaume Duguay, White, and Matteo Pizziconi contributed in relief. Perth SL1 smacked one home run on the day. White went deep in the second inning and had two hits in three at bats. Josh Paull went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Victoria Park Belmont in hits. The Reds didn't commit a single error in the field as Jack Smalpage had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team. The Reds have a 13-15 record and Perth sits at 12-17. Braves Baseball Club 5 v South Perth Cubs 1 The Braves defeated South Perth 5-1 on Sunday. They got things started in the first inning when Tim Kennelly homered on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. The Braves also notched three runs in the third inning on a single by Lochlainn Varian, a groundout by Cody Parkinson, and a double by Sean Garratt. Todd Hatcher earned the win, lasting five innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out two. Alex Oehme, Cameron Lamb, and Sam Kennelly all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. James Watson took the loss for South Perth. The pitcher went three innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out two. Kennelly went yard in the first inning and Jack Rigden, Varian, Jordan Dyer, Kevin Clark, and Garratt each had one hit. South Perth was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Kent Fitzgibbons had the most chances in the field with seven. The Braves have a 20-6-2 record going into the semi-finals while South Perth is 15-13. South Perth Cubs 4 v Rockingham Rams 3 South Perth Cubs ran off with the lead late in the game in a 4-3 victory over Rockingham Rams on Wednesday. The game was tied at three with South Perth batting in the bottom of the sixth when Max Wheeler's sac fly scored one run. Rockingham got on the board in the second inning as Corbin Todd hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run. Tyler Paull started for the Cubs and lasted five innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out one and walking one. Cayden Nicoletto started for Rockingham, giving up two hits and three runs over five innings, striking out nine. Zachary Gomersall threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Scott Cornish led South Perth with two hits in three at bats. Nicoletto went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Rockingham in hits. Victoria Park Belmont Reds 1 v Braves Baseball Club 3 Victoria Park Belmont lost the lead late in a 3-1 defeat to the Braves on Friday night. The game was tied at one with the Braves batting in the top of the eighth when an error scored one run. The pitching was strong on both sides. The Braves struck out eight, while the Reds sat down five. The Reds tied things up at one in the bottom of the seventh on an error. Todd Hatcher got the start for the Braves. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on one hit over two innings, striking out five and walking one. Perth Baseball Club 6 v Carine Cats 3 Perth defeated Carine 6-3 in Sunday's second inning, thanks in part to a big RBI single by Aki Tsukaguchi in the three-run third inning. Jake White was the winning pitcher for Perth. The pitcher lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out four and walking zero. Edgar Mundarain threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen and recorded the last six outs to earn the save. Tarrant Reimers took the loss for Carine. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out one. Matt Durbin led Perth with two hits in four at bats. Carine totaled nine hits. Cody Holt and Aden Browne all collected multiple hits as Holt went 3-for-4 at the plate. The Cats play the Swans next and 12-15 Perth plays the Braves and Victoria Park Belmont. South Perth was boosted by Adam Barbarich who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Barbarich singled in the third, doubled in the fourth, singled in the sixth, and singled in the eighth. South Perth Cubs SL1 notched four runs in the fourth inning thanks to a home run by Bowey and Barbarich's double. The Hawks scored three runs in the fifth inning on a home run by Joshua Silvi. The Cubs evened things up at six in the bottom of the seventh when Jake Bowey hit a solo homer. James Watson led things off on the mound for South Perth. The pitcher allowed seven hits and six runs over four and a third innings, striking out one. Kane Silvi started the game for Gosnells. The righthander allowed 11 hits and five runs over six innings, striking out three. Louis Scaramella threw two innings in relief. Bowey had two home runs for South Perth as the team racked up 17 hits, including multiple from Kent Fitzgibbons, Bryce Ruksenas, Wheeler, and Tanner McCarn. Silvi led Gosnells with two hits in four at bats. The Hawks head into the next round v Rockingham with 14 wins, 10 losses, and two draws. 15-12 South Perth plays the Braves next. Wembley Magpies 5 v Swan Districts Swans 1 Wembley ran off with the lead late in the game in a 5-1 victory over Swan Districts on Sunday. The game was tied at one with the Magpies batting in the bottom of the eighth when Adam Van Brakel singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. The Swans got things moving in the second inning when Brody Clarkson grounded out, scoring one run. Wembley tied things up at one in the bottom of the seventh. Chris Crawford led the Magpies to victory on the hill with just one run surrendered on seven hits over nine innings, striking out five. Dillian Clarkson took the loss for the Swans. The pitcher surrendered five runs on six hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Tyson Noel started the game for the Swans, lasting five scoreless innings with five hits and two strikeouts. Wembley saw the ball well today, racking up 11 hits in the game. Tony Bacci, Nick Alexiou, Bradley Tate, and Joris Van Ballegooy had two hits apiece as the team didn't make any errors in the field either. Bacci had the most chances in the field with 13. The Swans tallied seven hits on the day with multiple to Maddux Stivey and Riley Moore. Wembley has a 7-19 record going into the next games at Victoria Park Belmont and Rockingham. The 9-17 Swans play Carine at home for Team Spencer Day. Rockingham Rams 7 v Wanneroo Giants 5 Rockingham took the lead late and defeated Wanneroo 7-5 on Sunday. The Rams were down 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Sam Sheppard singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. Rockingham pulled away for good with three runs in the sixth, including an RBI single from Cayden Nicoletto. Zachary Gomersall led the Rams to victory on the hill. Wanneroo tallied nine hits in the game, including multiple to Dawson Summers and Ben King. Summers went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the team. 23-3 Wanneroo plays second-place Morley next as 9-16 Rockingham takes on Gosnells. Morley Eagles 10 v Braves Baseball Club 7 Morley grabbed an early lead on its way to a 10-7 victory over the Braves on Sunday. The Eagles scored in the first on a single by Jesse Williams, a walk by Christopher House, a double by Travis Murphy, and a groundout by Lachy Southee. Zac McMillin homered in the second inning. There was plenty of action on the basepaths as Morley collected 11 hits overall and the Braves had seven. Alex Oehme and Jack Rigden drove in runs for the Braves in the three-run sixth inning. Southee led the Eagles to victory on the hill. The hurler went five and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on four hits and striking out six. Brendan Sing, Williams, and Caiden Deal all put in work out of the bullpen. Todd Hatcher took the loss for the Braves. He went three innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out one. Aaron Bonomi, McMillin, Murphy, and Williams all had multiple hits for Morley as Bonomi went 3-for-4. Cody Parkinson and Rigden had multiple hits for the Braves.
