Baseball WA is pleased to announce the appointment of Glen Tovey as our new development officer.
Glen will coordinate on-field participation programs and support clubs in upskilling their personnel, including the national coach accreditation scheme. “We are excited for Glen to join the Baseball WA team. His experience and passion for grassroots baseball is exceptional and we are confident he will deliver a high standard on the field through our participation and development programs,” Baseball WA CEO Lachlan Dale said. “We know the baseball and tee-ball community will benefit from Glen’s contributions and we are looking forward to a bright future as we further develop and grow our sport.” Glen will start with Baseball WA on Monday 8 November 2021 in time for an action-packed few months of participation programs. “I’m very grateful for this opportunity to serve the baseball community. The 2021/22 State League 1 season continued with a big weekend of baseball. another big weekend. The Braves improved to 6-1 while Vic Park is 5-1 and Wanneroo is 4-1. Check out recaps from this past weekend: Carine 2 v Swan Districts 3 Swan Districts Swans were just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Carine Cats on Thursday. Declan Phillips started the game for Carine and recorded 12 outs. Tyson Noel was credited with the victory for the Swans. The southpaw lasted five innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out nine and walking one. Maddux Stivey threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Phillips took the loss for Carine. The pitcher surrendered three runs on three hits over four innings, striking out two. Tarrant Reimers, Tom Hartley, Carlos Salas, Josh Davies, and Cameron Landy each managed one hit to lead the Cats. Bailey-Jay Cooke went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Swans in hits. Wanneroo 5 v Wembley 1 Wanneroo Giants scored more runs than Wembley Magpies, taking the victory on Friday to the tune of 5-1. The Giants got their offense started in the second as an error scored one run. Then they added three in the third with RBIs from Dawson Summers, Jacob Santich, and Daniel Stephenson. Tom Bailey earned the victory on the mound for Wanneroo, going two innings with zero runs on zero hits and two strikeouts. Chris King started the game for Wanneroo. The pitcher allowed two hits and one run over four innings, striking out four and walking zero. Michael Albertini took the loss for Wembley. The hurler went four and a third innings, allowing five runs on four hits and striking out nine. Summers led Wanneroo with two hits in two at bats. The team made no errors in the field while Coner Lourey had the most chances with seven. Wembley has one win, one draw, and four losses before a doubleheader at South Perth this Sunday. Braves 17 v Perth 4 Kevin Clark drove in seven on three hits to lead the Braves past Perth 17-4 on Sunday. Clark drove in runs on a grand slam in the first, a single in the second, and a single in the fifth. Tim Kennelly drove in the first run of the game for the Braves in the opening frame. Perth scored four runs in the second inning, but the Braves still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Perth came thanks to a single by Brayden Moyle and a double by Aki Tsukaguchi. The Braves put up five runs in the fifth inning with RBIs from Sam Kennelly, Clark, Cody Parkinson, and Masato Nishio. Cameron Lamb took the win for the Braves. The righty allowed zero hits and zero runs over two and a third innings, striking out four and walking zero. Daniel Schmidt and Kennelly entered the game out of the bullpen. Flynn McGahan started the game for the Braves, giving up four runs on four hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three. The Braves socked two home runs on the day as Kennelly went for the long ball in the sixth after Clark homered in the first. The Braves tallied including three apiece for Clark and Kennelly. The team had an error-free fielding performance as Parkinson had eight chances in the field, the most on the team. Perth plays Wanneroo on Friday night while the 6-1 Braves have a doubleheader v Carine on Sunday. Victoria Park Belmont 5 v Rockingham 2 An early lead helped Victoria Park defeat Rockingham 5-2 on Sunday as the Reds took the lead on a groundout in the second inning. Mathew Martin earned the victory on the hill for Vic Park, allowing five hits and two runs over nine innings, striking out three and walking one. Brock Molloy led things off on the pitcher's mound for the Rams, giving up three runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out six. Mitchell Field threw one inning out of the bullpen. Josh Paull, Ryan Boyer, Matthew Reynolds, Joshua Cosgrove, Lachlan Ballantyne, and Curtis Bacon all had one hit for the Reds. Sean Garratt went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Rockingham in hits. The 5-1 Reds play have a doubleheader v Morley on Sunday while the Rams play South Perth on Wednesday. Wanneroo 4 v Swan Districts 1 Wanneroo Giants won 4-1 against Swan Districts Swans. Jay Bullingham earned the win for the Giants, going six innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out six and walking zero. Jackson Riley and Frazer Brice entered the game out of the bullpen to close it out. Dillan Clarkson took the loss for the Swans. Clarkson went five and a third innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out two and walking one. Dawson Summers went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Wanneroo in hits. 4-1 Wanneroo plays Perth on Friday while 4-2 Swan Districts plays Perth on Sunday. Morley 10 v South Perth 0 Morley Eagles defeated South Perth Cubs 10-0 on Sunday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Morley was boosted by Kieran Chapman who went 4-for-5 at the plate. Chapman singled in the second, singled in the third, doubled in the sixth, and singled in the eighth. The Eagles fired up the offense in the second inning, when Cody Holt singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. They added four runs in the sixth inning. Holt, Mitchell Schofield, Alex Hall, and Chapman all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. A single by Patrick Temby in the second inning was a positive for South Perth. Brendan Sing took the win for Morley. The bulldog lasted six innings, allowing five hits and zero runs while striking out three and walking one. Lucas John took the loss for the Cubs, allowing 12 hits and seven runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Morley racked up 14 hits in the game, with Chapman, Schofield, Luke Hughes, Mark Hannah, and Holt all having multiple hits. Chapman went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Eagles in hits. The Cubs tallied seven hits on the day including multiple for Warwick Saupold and Max Wheeler. The Cubs didn't commit a single error as Temby had the most chances in the field with five. South Perth is 3-3 going into Wednesday's game v Rockingham, while 2-2 Morley has a doubleheader at Vic Park on Sunday. Gosnells 6 v Carine 1 Gosnells Hawks was victorious over Carine Cats 6-1. The Hawks got on the board in the first inning when Robin Adamson singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. The Hawks scored four more runs in the fifth inning. Adamson, Liam Collins, and Jack Burt all drove in runs in the frame. Adam Millson earned the win for Gosnells. The pitcher went five innings, allowing zero runs on four hits, striking out one and walking zero. Burt and Maclin Berry entered the game out of the bullpen. Cameron Landy took the loss for Carine. The bulldog went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out one. Adamson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Hawks in hits. Gosnells was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Lee Wisby had the most chances in the field with eight. Carine racked up five hits on the day, including multiple three to Andre Bello and two to Declan Phillips. Baseball WA is pleased to share the schedule for our 2021 Tee-Ball Super Challenge starting Wednesday 3 November. Now in its third year, this tournament provides more opportunities for entry-level tee-ballers to play teams from other clubs. All rules associated with TBAWA Under 11 division apply and there are four clubs taking part this year: Carine, Roleystone, Secret Harbour and Forest Lakes. “We are excited for the third annual Tee-Ball Super Challenge and giving these athletes the chance to develop their skills and take part in an exciting, inclusive competition," Baseball WA Participation Program Manager David Hayes said. “Our teams had a great time last year and we can't wait for another awesome tee-ball event." Baseball WA has implemented changes to bat regulations as BBCOR and USA bat stamps are now mandatory for all senior competitions as per below:
13.3.4 Any aluminum, ceramic or carbon graphite bats must meet the following standards: • Any bat (either composite or hybrid bat) must be stamped with BBCOR or USA Bats to be considered a legal bat. • A bat must not have a drop greater than -8 ounces to be considered a legal bat. 13.3.6 Teams found using illegal bats will have the bat removed from the game. South Perth evened things up at two in the top of the fourth inning when Jordan Moore induced Max Wheeler to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored. The game was still tied at two with the Cubs batting in the top of the fifth when Kent Fitzgibbons singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. Caleb Goodwin toed the rubber for the Cubs, giving up two runs on two hits over two innings, striking out four. Josh Malatesta was on the hill for Perth. He lasted three innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out five. Moore, Jordano Vivona, and Jake White each contributed in relief. Perth tallied seven hits in the game, including two apiece to Brayden Moyle and Matt Sibley. Fitzgibbons led South Perth with two hits in two at bats. Perth plays Rockingham and Braves next. Braves 14 v Wembley 0 The Braves defeated Wembley 14-0 on Sunday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Sam Kennelly struck out Joshua Houston to finish off the game. The Braves fired up the offense in the first inning, when Kennelly doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. They added nine runs in the second with RBIs from Tim Kennelly, Kennelly, Ben Drew, and Geoff Kerr. A single by Jayson Brown in the second inning was a positive for Wembley. Todd Hatcher was the winning pitcher for the Braves. The lefty surrendered zero runs on four hits over three innings, striking out two. Kennelly threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Tate Bradley took the loss for Wembley. The pitcher surrendered ten runs on five hits over one and one-third innings. Drew went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Braves SL1 in hits. Braves 6 v Wembley 2 The Braves scored more runs than Wembley in game two with a 6-2 victory. The winning side got started in the first when Kevin Clark doubled to score two runs. Ben Drew and Cody Parkinson contributed to a three-run third while Cameron Lamb pitched the Braves to victory. South Perth 12 v Carine 5 Jake Bowey was bad news for opposing pitchers on Sunday, driving in four on two hits to lead South Perth past Carine 12-5. Bowey drove in runs on a double in the first, a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and a home run in the sixth. The Cubs earned the victory despite allowing the Cats to score five runs in the seventh inning on RBIs from Josh Davies, Cameron Landy, and Chase Mitchell. South Perth fired up the offense in the first inning, when Bowey doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. The team added three in the eighth on doubles by Warwick Saupold and Tanner McCarn and a single by Kent Fitzgibbons. Lucas John was on the hill for South Perth. Wanneroo 5 v Victoria Park Belmont 6 Wanneroo's effort to come back from down five runs in the eighth inning came up just short, as the Giants fell 6-5 to Victoria Park Belmont Reds on Sunday. Wanneroo scored four runs in the failed comeback on a single by Daniel Bourke, a fielder's choice by Nicholas Riley, a groundout by Dawson Summers, and a single by Ben King. The Giants couldn't keep up with the Reds early in the game as Vic Park took the lead in the second when Ryan Boyer hit a solo homer. Wanneroo scored four runs in the eighth inning. The rally was led by singles from Bourke and King, a groundout by Summers, and a fielder's choice by Riley. The Reds scored three runs in the eighth inning. The big inning came thanks to a walk by Mathew Martin, a single by Lachlan Ballantyne, and a groundout by Boyer. Corey Brown got the start for Vic Park. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out one and walking one. The Hawks took an early lead in the second inning when Louis Scaramella singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Morley powered back and took the lead for good with seven runs in the fourth inning, made possible by a double from Luke Hughes to score three runs. Brendan Sing got the win for Morley. The ace surrendered five runs on nine hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Raleigh Pelkonen started the game and lasted three innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out two. Adam Millson took the loss for Gosnells. Millson lasted three innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out five. Morley racked up 11 hits as Mitchell Schofield, Zac McMillin, and Aaron Bonomi each collected two hits to lead the way. The Hawks had 12 hits in the game. Jack Burt went 3-for-5 while Scaramella, Callan Silvi, and Liam Collins all had multiple hits as well. Gosnells plays Carine this coming Sunday while 1-2 Morley plays South Perth. Rockingham Rams 4 v Swan Districts Swans 12 Rockingham Rams watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 12-4 loss to Swan Districts Swans on Sunday. The Swans scored on a double by Dylan Bojarski in the first inning and singles by Ashton Hamilton and Bailey-Jay Cooke in the second. The Swans also scored four runs in the ninth inning. The offensive onslaught was led by Dan Carter, Cooke, Maddux Stivey, and Bojarski, all driving in runs in the frame. Dillan Clarkson took the win for the Swans. The lefthander surrendered three runs on three hits over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Tyson Noel and Stivey entered the game out of the bullpen to close it out. Brock Molloy took the loss for Rockingham, going six innings, allowing four runs on five hits, and striking out six. Rui Harrison, Sean Garratt, Finlay Duncan, and Thomas Flynn each collected one hit for Rockingham. The Swans racked up 11 hits.
