Kurt Russell will take over as head coach of the Dragons for the 2020 Pro League. Russell has been an assistant coach to Pete Torpy for the past few seasons, and he helped get his team to the final in 2019.
Russell has been a coach in the Baseball WA winter programs for the last eight years, and he has been involved in multiple charter programs as well as the WA State Youth Girls and 16s teams. As Russell continues to learn and develop his coaching skills, he looks forward to this opportunity to lead the Dragons in another fantastic season. Baseball WA thanks Pete Torpy for his commitment and success over the past two seasons with the Dragons, and we are excited to see what Russell and his team can accomplish during the 2020 Pro League, starting in term three. Sam Kennelly will coach the Ravens in the 2020 Pro League, taking over from Eric Grabe who coached the team to victory last year.
With Grabe heading back to the U.S., Kennelly will look to lead the Ravens to back-to-back winning runs after going all the way in 2019. As a former professional player with the Pittsburgh Pirates and current member of the Perth Heat, Kennelly has a wealth of experience to share with the Ravens. He has coached many junior teams and is excited to take it to the next level and share his knowledge of the game during the 2020 Pro League, starting in term three. Baseball WA continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation as State and Federal Governments announce plans for easing restrictions. This includes Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s announcement of the three-step framework for a COVID-Safe Australia on Friday, as well as the WA Government’s four-phase roadmap for lifting restrictions and restarting the state’s economy.
Baseball WA is working to develop the best strategy for returning to baseball activity alongside State and Federal Governments, Baseball Australia and our state and territory counterparts. We must make sure our return to activity follows the National Principles for the Resumption of Sport and Recreation Activities and the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport in a COVID-19 Environment. |
