The Baseball WA Participation & Development team enjoyed a busy week of outreach activities, introducing diamond sports to young kids across the state.
On Monday we visited the Scouts WA OneCamp at the Swan Valley Adventure Centre. We did Baseball5 in the morning and tee-ball in the afternoon for Scouts from all over WA ranging in age from 5 to 17 years old. On Thursday, we were guests at Curtin University’s Carnaby Kids school holiday sport program. Approximately 100 kids from age 5 to 12 learned the basics of tee-ball and played mini games. We had to compete with the solar eclipse for the kids’ attention, but it was a lot of fun and there were smiles all around. Finally, on Saturday morning, Baseball WA hosted a group of 17 children (and a couple of interested parents) from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in conjunction with Culture Care WA. The two-hour session introduced tee-ball to families who have moved to WA from Asia. The kids learned hitting, fielding and baserunning skills, capped off with a game in front of an enthusiastic crowd of parents. Many of them told us they cannot wait for the new season to start so that they can sign up with their local clubs. We are looking forward to more participation and development activities in the coming months and hope to see more kids join our sport as a result! Baseball WA is excited to confirm 2023 Japan World Series squads for the Pony Girls Open Women’s and Under 15 competitions.
Congratulations to all participants, who will be taking part in the first-ever World Series for Pony Girls Baseball, set for 31 July through 4 August in Tochigi, Japan. “The 2023 Japan Women's & Girls World Series will be a fantastic opportunity for our women’s baseball athletes to compete against teams from around the globe,” BWA Participation Manager David Hayes said. “We are so excited with the interest in this program and we can’t wait for the World Series action later this year as we continue to encourage ad support female participation in our sport.” BWA has appointed Ben Meier as head coach of the 16-and-over team and Beyanka Girdlestone as head coach of the 15-and-under team. Brianna Leeson will serve as EO. Read more about the Pony World Series HERE. Baseball WA is pleased to confirm plans for a new Rays Showcase program, which will take place during the October school holidays and offer an exciting opportunity for players in the Foundation and Talent categories of BWA’s Pathways Framework (FTEM).
“With the reintroduction of the Australian Youth Championships in January, we did not run the Rays Showcase like in the previous two years. Now, with the introduction of a new winter league, Pro League will not be running. As a result, a brand new Rays Showcase will be launched in October for players in the Foundation 3+, Talent 1, and Talent 2 categories of our Pathways Framework,” BWA Participation Manager David Hayes said. “This will be a great opportunity for young athletes to continue their development and grow more confident in their baseball abilities, paving the path for a bright future in our sport.” Diamond Fitness is excited to be involved in the Rays Showcase once more. “It’s going be fun! Our plan is to replicate Major League Spring Training as closely as possible and give players a Big League experience,” Director Dean White said. Once the FTEM lists have been updated with participants in the JLSC and SLSC, all eligible U16 and U18 players will be contacted directly offering a position in the program. Please stay tuned for further updates.
