Western Australia’s U16 State Team is ready for a huge week of baseball, heading off to Redcliffe, Queensland for the 2022 Australian Youth Championship from 4-9 July. “After two years without nationals, we are so excited to send off our talented players and watch them compete on the national stage,” Baseball WA CEO Lachlan Dale said. “These athletes were selected from the Rays Showcase in January 2022 and have been training and putting the work in ever since both on and off the field. It’s a credit to the players and coaches for the work so far and now it’s time to go.” “We wish our team the best of luck and know they are in great hands with head coach Kent Fitzgibbons and assistant coaches Daniel Calverley, Stuart Howell and Brandon Migro.” Baseball WA High Performance Manager Andy Kyle says it’s an exciting time for baseball in Australia. “The partnerships and exposure these athletes will receive over the next couple of years will provide a great opportunity to showcase their talent,” Kyle said. “The staff and athletes have done a fantastic job in preparing themselves for the tournament. I believe the team is extremely versatile and will match it against the best teams across the country.” Head coach Kent Fitzgibbons agrees. “It's exciting for the group to be able to compete against the best players in the country for the first time in over two years,” Fitzgibbons said. “Baseball Australia has done an incredible job - through their partnerships - of being able to provide these athletes with the best opportunity to showcase their talents to people around the world.” “The group has worked extremely hard over the last couple of months, with some really exciting development shown by the group. The ability for our group to play multiple positions and a deep pitching staff will hold us in good stead for the busy schedule and as a coaching staff we're looking forward to seeing the result of the players' hard work.” Best of luck to all players heading to nationals:
View the official #AYC2022 event hub HERE and stay tuned to BWA Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates. In March, Baseball WA made the decision to postpone the Annual BWA Awards Dinner due to the peak of COVID-19 hitting the WA community. Now in the middle of winter and the off-season for clubs, Baseball WA has made the difficult decision to not reschedule and will instead look to host an event in September to both formally recognise last season's award winners and officially launch the 2022/23 season. It is shaping up to be a big season with growing numbers, new competition structures, the return of the ABL, and hopefully some big events to be announced in the coming months. We'd like to recognise our award winners from the 2021/22 season - congratulations to all and we look forward to celebrating in person later this year! |
