Baseball WA is pleased to reveal the Indigenous jersey designs for its inaugural State League round this coming season.
To design dedicated jerseys, BWA worked with local Indigenous artist Loretta Egan, who explained that the design “BALU” means him, her, or person in Wajarri language. “In this design it shows the diamond on the field - the circles representing each base, with the wavey lines connecting them. The U shapes represents the players,” Egan said. “Balu (the player) is ready to pitch and the hands represent players leaving their mark like a fingerprint on the game." This design will be used for all 11 State League clubs, with the base colours changed to match club colours. Clubs will be able to purchase additional jerseys to sell to their members. Non-State League clubs will have the opportunity to obtain the jerseys and participate in the Indigenous round if they choose. “Thank you to Loretta Egan for guiding us through the design process of our Indigenous State League jerseys,” Baseball WA CEO Lachlan Dale said. “We are grateful for these meaningful designs and looking forward to acknowledging the Indigenous community through our special rounds from Friday 18 November to Sunday 27 November.” Stay tuned for more details on the Indigenous round coming soon.
